Starbucks: Company Mission and Brief History

Starbucks is a coffee company known worldwide. The company began as a single store in Seattle, WA in 1971 and there are now almost 18,000 stores in 60 countries around the world.
Starbucks is committed to providing their customers with the highest quality coffee from ethically sourced coffee beans, which includes their support of farmer loans and forest conservation projects to create a better future for farmers and for our environment.
The company mission is to “inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time”. Starbucks has become more than just a coffee shop – they have become gathering places for people to meet up with family or friends or to do work.
Starbucks controls over 33% of the market share of coffee sales in the U.S. and their target market are men and women aged 25-40, with that market contributing to 49% of their sales. Another 40% of Starbucks sales come from young adults aged 18-24 (Source: www.chron.com)
Starbucks serves more than 30 varieties of coffees as well as a variety of teas, espressos and their trademarked Frappuccino drinks. They also have their own home-brew systems and sell their ground coffees, pre-made coffee drinks and other products in stores outside of their coffee shops.
